Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy are quite common and can significantly reduce the quality of life for expectant mothers, negatively impacting their work lives as well. You can reduce nausea and vomiting during pregnancy by taking some precautions. Let’s explore how to reduce nausea during pregnancy.

  1. Eat small amounts frequently and avoid fatty and spicy foods.
  2. Eat small meals every 2 hours to ensure your body is never hungry.
  3. Have your last snack before bedtime to prevent morning sickness when you wake up.
  4. Chew your food slowly and thoroughly.
  5. Consume dry and cold foods like crackers.
  6. Drink fluids between meals. Lemonade may help alleviate nausea.
  7. Avoid alcoholic and caffeinated beverages.
  8. Stay away from strong smells, and if possible, refrain from cooking.
  9. Avoid fried and oily foods.
  10. If you lie down after eating, keep your head elevated.
  11. Avoid strong smells, heat, and noise that may trigger nausea and vomiting.
  12. Go outside, take a walk, and get some fresh air.
  13. Replenish fluid loss, and balance your B vitamin levels and electrolytes.
  14. Ginger has a positive effect on nausea, so you can consume it.

The severity of vomiting varies from person to person, peaking around the 9th week. Early treatment and dietary adjustments can lead to a decrease in symptoms by the end of the first 3 months. In rare cases, it may continue until the 20th week. Sometimes, in a small percentage of pregnancies (around 0.3% to 3%), the condition worsens gradually, and this process is prolonged. Nausea is absent in only 25% of pregnancies.
